Plot:
This is the third and best known Paul Wegener film about the Golem, and alongside "Nosferatu" and "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," survives as a fine specimen of early German Expressionism. This prequel story of the Golem is based on a medieval Jewish legend about a clay figure that is brought to life by a rabbi to serve as a protector of the Jews who live in the Prague ghetto in the 16th century. The rabbi's evil and greedy assistant takes control of the Golem, and uses it to commit crimes and has it kidnap the rabbi's beautiful daughter. The rabbi instilled the Golem with human emotions - will it rebel against its new master and do what's right?
